GLEDECS supports marginalised and vulnerable young people, smallholder farmers, and community members by promoting entrepreneurship, sustainable agriculture, and access to affordable financial support.
Our key areas of work include:
Providing small, affordable soft loans to young people who lack the collateral or mortgage security required by commercial banks.
Supporting youth-led businesses and income-generating activities.
Promoting sustainable agriculture and agri-entrepreneurship.
Supporting access to local markets for agricultural produce.
Encouraging practical enterprise development for people with limited formal education.
Promoting social and economic inclusion for vulnerable groups.
Supporting community initiatives related to water, sanitation, livelihoods, and general social welfare.
Through these interventions, GLEDECS aims to help community members develop reliable sources of income and participate more actively in the local economy.
Youth Entrepreneurship Support
GLEDECS provides financial and practical support for selected livelihood activities that have potential within the local market. These include:
Motorcycle transport businesses, commonly known as boda boda, particularly for young men.
Small mobile money businesses, particularly for young women.
Fishing activities for selected older community members.
Agricultural enterprises for people with access to land.
Other small businesses that can generate sustainable household income.
Our approach is designed to give people who are excluded from conventional financial services an opportunity to start or strengthen small businesses. We believe that access to modest capital, combined with responsible guidance and enterprise support, can help individuals build self-reliance and improve their families’ living conditions.
Sustainable Agriculture and Agri-Entrepreneurship
Agriculture remains central to the lives of people in Kyotera District. GLEDECS works with farmers to improve farming practices, promote sustainability, and strengthen agricultural enterprises.
We seek to help farmers move from subsistence production towards more productive and market-oriented agriculture by encouraging:
Sustainable farming methods.
Better planning and management of agricultural enterprises.
Improved access to markets.
Reduced post-harvest losses.
Diversification of household income.
Greater participation of young people and women in agriculture.
Our goal is to ensure that farming becomes not only a means of survival but also a viable pathway to employment, enterprise development, and community prosperity.
